Welcome to Bombed out LA…
My name is Andy Appleton, sometimes known as THE Andy Appleton (don’t ask!) & I was born & raised in the wet & windy North of England. My love of graffiti came about when i was in my early teens, I spent most of my youth reading 2000AD & various other ‘graphic novel’ style comics and then doodling & trying to recreate characters like Judge Dredd & Nemesis all whilst listening to a Public Enemy/Run DMC soundtrack. From there, I then started to try & copy the Street Imagery that adorned so may of my favorite albums…
Cut to 20 something years later and it is now a fully blown passion! And as I am lucky enough to now live in Los Angeles I spend many a weekend driving around the city taking pictures of Graffiti that inspired me as a teenager. So, basically… I’m a fan of Graffiti!
My wifes name is Mrs Appleton AKA Street Artist DeeKay AKA Kylie Ireland. Her public image & on screen reputation are irrelevant to this blog or her work on the street, she is simply one of the most talented & creative people I have ever met. She is also the defacto photographer for Bombed Out LA. Her adventures in photography started with her love of Americana as a child travelling around the US in the back of a 34 Chevy. She is always by my side with her camera, a few wheat pastes (and occaisionally a spray can!) not only getting some of the coolest shots of graffiti in LA but adding her own unique flavour of sexy street art with images of a faded Americana from her own personal collection.
Secondly, Our mission statement is simple:
“To find and Photograph the best, the most surreal & the most inspirational street art & graffiti Los Angeles has to offer”
…where possible we will try & tag the artist, date & location, we don’t take credit for any of the pieces on this blog, they belong to us all, just know if it’s on here …it’s good!
We value any comments you might have & hope you get the same enjoyment out of them that we do.
